Inguinal Hernia Surgery
What is an Inguinal Hernia?
An inguinal hernia occurs when part of the bowel or fatty tissue pushes through a weakness in the groin (inguinal) canal. It is more common in men and can cause a visible lump, discomfort, or pain, especially when lifting, coughing, or straining. Without repair, there is a small risk of the hernia becoming stuck or strangulated, which requires urgent surgery.
Repair is usually recommended when the hernia is symptomatic or when you and your surgeon decide the benefits of repair outweigh the risks.
Repair Options
Mr Moussa offers both open and laparoscopic (TAPP) inguinal hernia repair. Laparoscopic repair is performed through small incisions and often allows a quicker return to normal activities and less post-operative pain for many patients. Mesh is used to reinforce the repair and reduce recurrence. The choice between open and keyhole repair depends on your hernia, general health, and preference, and will be discussed at your consultation.
Recovery
Recovery is usually quick. You will be advised on wound care, driving, and when you can return to work and physical activity. Follow-up is arranged to check the wound and ensure you are comfortable.
